Fans of the Los Angeles Angels have some positive news regarding their best player, Mike Trout. He is scheduled to return after missing action due to a torn meniscus on April 29.
On Tuesday, Trout will start his rehab assignment with Salt Lake City, a Triple-A team. This will be his first time participating in a game since he had surgery on May 3 to address a problem with his left knee.
With their leader down on the IL, things have not been easy for the Halos. On a recent episode of Foul Territory TV, Sam Blum of The Athletic talked about the excitement around the building in light of Trout’s impending return.
“Mike Trout is a magnet for spectators, drawing a large crowd of Angels supporters. Covering a player like him is fun for me. He’s the greatest of the best and a wonderful person as well,” Blum remarked. Blum was forced to bring up the length of time it has taken, even though there is some excitement surrounding his comeback. He contrasted Trout with other athletes who suffered meniscus injuries and recovered considerably faster.
“I use the example of tennis player Novak Djokovic, who had meniscus surgery in June and made the Wimbledon finals a couple weeks later” – Blum stated.
Trout’s journey off the IL has taken some time, but there wasn’t much of a reason to press the issue. Why hasten the return of your great player when the Halos are not expected to make the playoffs this year?
When Mike Trout rejoins the Angels, what plans does he have?
Fans are curious about what will happen to Mike Trout when he rejoins the Angels lineup, even if he still has some time to go. Ron Washington, the manager, told reporters he will take his time working with Trout.
When he returns, the plan is to have him start as the designated hitter. He can then return to the outfield when some time has passed. When the slugger initially returns, the team wants to restrict how much he runs.
Trout’s return is not scheduled, but MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger speculates he would make an appearance in Thursday’s series against the Oakland Athletics. If so, the team’s upcoming homestand may see a spike in attendance.
