After Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers crushed a moonshot against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday, Freddie Freeman gave his teammate encouragement. The first baseman responded with an emoji after sharing a video of Ohtani’s home run on social media.
The Dodgers swept the Red Sox at home after an outstanding performance. Six different batters in the batting order each hit six home runs. Freddie Freeman launched a 417-foot home run to right center to start the scoring.
However, the fifth inning’s bottom was by far the greatest display. That evening, Shohei Ohtani took the mound for the third time. Ohtani scorched a 473-foot bomb to center field that cleared the bleachers and struck the roof on an 85 mph cutter and 2-1 count. The ball bounced off, making its way over the concourse and onto the ballpark plaza walkway.
The ‘Sho’ became the first National League batter to hit 30 home runs in a season with this one. In terms of home runs, he only trails Aaron Judge, who has 35 to his credit.
The sight of the ball clearing the bleachers took Freeman by surprise. In Dodger Stadium, this was the second-longest home run ever hit. He tweeted about Ohtani’s home run and included a ‘bomb’ symbol.
Dave Roberts is delighted with the Dodgers’ progress.
The Dodgers were having some difficulty before the All-Star break. Eight games prior to the Red Sox series, they had only one victory. However, things have rapidly changed because they defeated their AL East rivals handily. Manager Dave Roberts talked about the team’s return to form after the game.
We were not playing very well baseball heading into the break. And then to play the way we did, coming out fresh against a really good ballclub — the offense came to life, according to Roberts.
In order to improve their 59-41 record, the Dodgers will now play host to the San Francisco Giants, division rivals, in a four-game series.
