Second baseman Marcus Semien and reliever Kirby Yates will represent the Texas Rangers at the 94th All-Star Game on July 16, taking place at Globe Life Field in Arlington.
The Texas Rangers, the reigning World Series champions, will have at least two representatives at the 94th MLB All-Star Game, which they will host at Globe Life Field.
Second baseman Marcus Semien and reliever Kirby Yates have been chosen to represent the American League. The game will be broadcast on FOX (KDFW/Ch. 4 in North Texas) at 7:15 p.m. on July 16.
This marks the second time the Rangers have hosted the event, with the previous All-Star Game held in 1995 at The Ballpark in Arlington, located across the street from Globe Life Field.
Semien and Yates were selected through player voting. The full All-Star rosters were announced Sunday evening on ESPN, with the possibility of additional players being added as injury replacements.
The Rangers have had multiple All-Stars in the last five All-Star Games, including six players last year in Seattle. This marks the fifth consecutive year that Texas has had at least one position player and one pitcher on the All-Star team, the longest streak in the club’s history.
In fan voting, Marcus Semien finished second among AL second basemen with 383 votes, trailing Houston Astros’ Jose Altuve, who received 575 votes. Kirby Yates secured the final spot among AL relievers, placing third with 82 votes, behind Cleveland’s Emmanuel Clase (309 votes) and Oakland’s Mason Miller (243 votes).
Semien is making his third All-Star appearance and his second consecutive with the Rangers, having also been an All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021. Since 2013, the only other Rangers position player to earn consecutive All-Star nods is Corey Seager in 2022-2023. Yu Darvish is the only Rangers pitcher to have consecutive All-Star selections in 2013-2014.
Yates is the first Rangers reliever to be named an All-Star since Joe Nathan in 2013. He is the fifth Rangers All-Star pitcher in the past five seasons, joining Mike Minor (2019), Kyle Gibson (2021), Martin Pérez (2022), and Nathan Eovaldi (2023).
“Hosting the game is a rare opportunity. Making the team and playing in front of our home fans, with all their support, is something I’ll never forget,” Yates said.
Yates, who was previously selected as an All-Star in 2019 while playing for the San Diego Padres, did not see action in that game.
At 37 years old, Yates has had an impressive 2024 season, posting a 3-1 record with 13 saves and an outstanding 0.86 ERA across 31 relief appearances. He has successfully converted all 13 of his save opportunities. Among MLB relievers, Yates boasts the second-lowest qualifying ERA and opponent OPS
