Texas Rangers’ Marcus Semien Welcomes Baby No. 4, Daughter Amelie, amid Team’s Postseason Run

Marcus Semien expressed gratitude for being present for his daughter’s birth during a significant moment for his team.

Amid the Texas Rangers’ playoff journey, Marcus Semien, the 33-year-old second baseman, celebrated a new addition to his family. He and his wife Tarah Murrey welcomed their fourth child, daughter Amelie, on Thursday, October 12.

Marcus joyfully shared the news upon rejoining his team for the American League Championship Series (ALCS), where they clinched the division and secured a spot in the World Series.Texas Rangers' Marcus Semien Welcomes Baby No. 4, Daughter Amelie, amid Team's Postseason Run.

In a post-game interview, Marcus celebrated the team’s victory alongside his three older sons—Eki, 2, Joshua, 5, and Isaiah, 8—and reflected on the whirlwind of the past month for his family. “It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. We finished the last week of the season, not knowing if I would be there for the birth of our baby. I was on the road. After finishing the DS, we decided to induce, and it’s been a hectic week,” he shared.

Marcus Semien’s dual celebrations of a new child and his team’s success encapsulated a memorable and eventful period for him both on and off the baseball field.

“We signed up for it,” Semien said in another interview. “When you’re playing baseball this late in the year, I mean, these are the most meaningful games of my life. And they’re the most meaningful games for our family. So it’s tough that I can’t be there, but Tarah is a competitor. She’s ready for me to have a good series here, get this win and bring it back to Texas.”

Semien revealed the family’s baby news in a media update days after his daughter was born.

“These games all mean so much and it’s tough but I was able to be there and spend the two days in the hospital and get home and get on a flight. Everybody’s good and everybody’s healthy and happy and we’re all blessed,” he said.

“I think that every father in here who has been in a hospital at that time, you know, you’re just worried about your wife. You get a couple of hours of sleep here and there, but you make sure your loved ones are good.”

Semien and Murrey are high school sweethearts who first met at St. Mary’s and continued their romance as student-athletes at UC Berkeley, where Murrey was a volleyball player. They tied the knot in January 2012.
