Texas Rangers slugger Corey Seager returned to the starting lineup Wednesday night against the San Diego Padres after missing the last two games due to a left wrist bruise.
The Texas Rangers shortstop, Corey Seager, returned to the lineup for Wednesday night’s game against the San Diego Padres at Globe Life Field after missing two games. Seager was sidelined due to a left wrist bruise sustained when he was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning against the Orioles in Baltimore on Saturday.
Seager exited that game immediately, and scans revealed no fractures, but he was diagnosed with a deep bruise. Earlier in June, he missed five games with a hamstring strain, and he was absent for most of spring training following surgery to repair a sports hernia on January 30.
Initially, Seager was not included in the Rangers’ lineup for Wednesday’s game, with Josh Smith starting at shortstop and Jonathan Ornelas at third base. However, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy hinted at Seager’s improved condition, suggesting he might be an option for the game. About two and a half hours after the initial lineup was announced, an updated card placed Seager at shortstop and Smith at third.
Despite Seager’s absence, the Rangers have enjoyed a slugging surge over the past three games, accumulating 22 extra-base hits, including a season-high eight (six doubles and two homers) in Tuesday’s 7-0 win over the Padres.
Seager is batting .260 with 15 homers and 37 RBIs this season. His recent performance has been strong, with 10 homers and four doubles among his last 30 hits.
