Nathaniel Lowe powered two home runs to headline a record-setting performance with a season-high eight extra-base hits as the Texas Rangers dominated the San Diego Padres 7-0 on Tuesday night at Globe Life Field.
Lowe’s two-run homers in the first and third innings propelled Texas to an early 5-0 lead, with Josh Smith drawing walks ahead of both of Lowe’s home runs.
The Rangers’ offensive outburst included a total of eight extra-base hits, highlighted by six doubles. Leody Taveras contributed two doubles, including an RBI double that drove in Jonah Heim, who started the second inning with a double. Wyatt Langford, Adolis Garcia, and Jonathan Ornelas also added doubles to bolster Texas’ commanding performance.
Texas has now accumulated 21 extra-base hits in their last three games, showcasing a remarkable surge in power hitting compared to earlier in the season. For instance, during the first 25 games in June, the Rangers managed only 50 extra-base hits, underscoring the recent improvement in their offensive output and ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
Nathan Eovaldi put together his best start of the season, holding the Padres scoreless on one hit over seven innings while striking out six. Eovaldi improved to 5-3 with the win and lowered his ERA to 3.15. It’s his first scoreless outing since going 5 1/3 innings against the Nationals on May 2. Eovaldi retired the final 13 batters he faced. He only allowed a two-out single in the third by Bryce Johnson.
