Denver bolsters their roster with Holmes, trading Dunn, the 56th pick in 2024, and two future second-round picks to Phoenix.
The Denver Nuggets strengthened their frontcourt by securing reigning Kia MVP Nikola Jokic some extra support, while the Phoenix Suns enhanced their backcourt depth.
In a Draft-night trade, Denver obtained the rights to the No. 22 pick, DaRon Holmes II, from Phoenix in exchange for the No. 28 pick, Ryan Dunn, the No. 56 pick in the 2024 Draft, and second-round picks in 2026 and 2031.
Holmes was one of the top scorers in the nation at Dayton, averaging 20.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game last season. Standing at 6-foot-9, he can contribute to Denver’s pick-and-roll game with his shooting ability, finishing near the rim, and defending multiple positions.
Last season, veteran DeAndre Jordan was one of Jokic’s main backups, along with Zeke Nnaji. While Nnaji received a contract extension last summer, Jordan is an unrestricted free agent this summer. Holmes provides Denver with insurance in case they decide not to re-sign Jordan.
Dunn offers Phoenix youthful energy and defensive prowess on the wings. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 8.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.3 blocks, and 1.3 steals per game last season and is known for his strong rebounding and defense. He’ll join a Phoenix backcourt featuring Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Grayson Allen, where he should compete for minutes as a reserve.
