The Texas Rangers scored once but the Milwaukee Brewers scored three runs.
Well, the 2024 Texas Rangers that you know and loathe arrived at the office tonight as they plated a run in the first inning and then did a big fat load of nothing the rest of the game to let Milwaukee beat them despite only allowing three runs.
That’s another series loss for Texas and they’ll attempt to avoid a sweep tomorrow.
Joey Ortiz launched a home run and Bryse Wilson delivered six innings of scoreless relief to propel the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. Ortiz led off the fifth inning with his seventh homer of the season, a 370-foot shot to left field off Texas starter Andrew Heaney, giving the Brewers a 2-1 lead.
Wilson, originally slated to start but entering in the third inning after opener Hoby Milner, showcased his versatility by allowing just three hits over his six innings of work. He struck out four batters and issued no walks, earning his fifth win of the season (5-3). Elvis Peguero secured his second save of the year.
Milwaukee loaded the bases in the sixth inning with three walks off Brock Burke, but Dane Dunning entered the game and escaped the jam by inducing an inning-ending soft liner back to the mound from William Contreras.
The Brewers extended their lead to 3-1 in the seventh inning when Christian Yelich singled, advanced on a groundout, and then scored from second base on Rhys Hoskins’ single to center field, which narrowly eluded the diving attempt of shortstop Corey Seager.
On the mound for Texas, Heaney (2-9) allowed two runs on six hits across five innings, striking out four and walking two in a 90-pitch effort. The Rangers had taken an early 1-0 lead in the first inning against Milner, as Seager doubled and Josh Smith followed with an RBI single up the middle.
Milner, making his first start after 269 relief appearances dating back to 2018, retired the side in order in the second inning before giving way to Wilson, who showed his effectiveness both as a starter and reliever this season.
Despite stranding runners on third base in the first two innings, Milwaukee tied the game at 1-1 in the third inning when Contreras doubled and scored on Jackson Chourio’s two-out RBI single.
Overall, the Brewers’ combination of timely hitting and strong pitching performances secured the win, highlighting their resilience and depth as they continue their pursuit in the competitive MLB season.
