Corey Seager continues to maintain his impressive streak, while the Rangers struggle to break their dry spell.
Seager’s hitting streak reached 14 games, and his on-base streak extended to 23 games after a first-inning single on Saturday. Consequently, he was a clear selection as the Rangers’ Player of the Month for May. During the month, Seager boasted an impressive slash line of .287/.387/.660/1.047, tallying 11 home runs and 21 RBIs. This performance marked the fifth-best month of Seager’s career, given he played at least 20 games.
He will not, however, win the American League award for the month when it is announced on Monday. That will almost certainly go to New York’s Aaron Judge. Judge obliterated the baseball and led the AL in batting average (.371), OBP (.488), slugging (.928), OPS (1.415) and home runs (14).
The Rangers have not had a player win AL Player of the Month since Shin-Soo Choo won it in 2015, extending the streak to eight years and two months. The Rangers have had a pair of AL Pitchers of the Month in that time, though: Martín Pérez (May 2022) and Nathan Eovaldi (May 2023).
Seager has had two hitting streaks of at least 15 games in his career. He hit 19 straight in 2016 and had a 15-game streak in 2017. His longest on-base streak is 26 games, set last year from June 10-July 7.
