Rangers fans are going to feel conflicted with Ron Washington in enemy dugout

Ron Washington will return to Arlington this weekend, leading a division rival for the first time since his unexpected departure from the Texas Rangers in late 2014. The LA Angels are coming to town for a three-game series.

Despite the rivalry, it will be difficult for Rangers fans to harbor any ill will towards Washington, given his remarkable seven-year tenure as Texas’ manager. He was the first to lead the Rangers to a World Series in 2010 and returned the following year, only to suffer a heartbreaking loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Washington remains the winningest manager in Rangers history, boasting a 664-611 record during his time with the team.

Beyond his on-field success, Washington was adored by Rangers fans for his fun and charismatic personality. He became well-known across the MLB for his one-liners and optimistic demeanor, which endeared him to fans and brought the Rangers national recognition for the first time since their move to Arlington.

After resigning in 2014, Ron Washington stayed active in baseball. He initially rejoined the Oakland A’s as their third base coach and later joined the Braves coaching staff, where he won his first World Series in 2021. In Atlanta, Washington was highly praised for his defensive coaching, helping players like Ronald Acuña Jr. develop into top-tier defensive talents.

This past offseason, Angels owner Arte Moreno decided to take a chance on Washington, giving him another opportunity to manage a major league team. However, Washington has faced several challenges with the Angels, including Mike Trout’s significant injury that has sidelined him for much of the season. The Angels currently hold a disappointing 16-28 record, placing them at the bottom of the AL West.Texas Rangers unfurl franchise's first World Series championship banner – KGET 17

Despite returning to Arlington as an opponent, Rangers fans should be thrilled to see Washington back in a managerial role. He remains one of the most genuine and entertaining figures in baseball.
