Anthony Edwards incited Nikola Jokić and maintained his stance following a tense Game 7 triumph. Throughout the series, it was Jamal Murray and Edwards, engaging in banter and heated exchanges. Despite the on-court drama, the Serbian center remained composed and led the Denver Nuggets to three consecutive victories over the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, his composure wavered after a move by the Wolves guard.
Moments before the final buzzer of Game 7, Jokić was seen exchanging words with Edwards, who had just acknowledged the crowd. The reigning MVP appeared displeased with the young guard’s actions towards the Nuggets fans at Ball Arena. While it was surprising to witness Jokić stepping out of character, a recent leaked audio shed light on the situation.
With 30 seconds remaining on the clock and the Wolves leading by 7 points, Edwards seized the moment. The emerging star dribbled slowly, gestured towards the crowd, and then passed the ball. Following a foul called on KCP for a separate play, Jokić approached Ant-Man and inquired, “Why, Why?” Edwards, puzzled by his question, replied, “Why, what?” Jokić got straight to the point, questioning, “Why did you wave at the crowd?” However, Edwards, with a stoic expression, simply pointed at the scoreboard without uttering a word.
Former Minnesota Timberwolves legend Kevin Garnett offered high praise for the team’s emerging star, Anthony Edwards.
During an appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show on Monday, Garnett lauded Edwards’ self-assurance and his ability to perform under pressure during the playoffs.
“I truly believe he’s been the dominant force in every series he’s been a part of,” Garnett remarked (at the 46:00 mark). “Now, I’m not sure if Ant Man can outshine Luka [Dončić] or Kyrie [Irving], but let me tell you, he brings the energy. I haven’t seen a young player exude this level of confidence since LeBron [James], [Dwyane Wade], or [Carmelo Anthony]. This kid has immense confidence.”
