Shohei Ohtani’s and his wife Mamiko’s date night on Thursday was filled with celebrities.

The couple made their red carpet—er, blue carpet—debut in Los Angeles when they exited Dodger Stadium for the Dodgers Foundation’s 2024 Blue Diamond Gala.

The 29-year-old Ohtani grinned at Mamiko as they entered the venue, where they were accompanied by singer Ed Sheeran, who was the main act for the benefit concert. They were both dressed in black attire.

Two months after disclosing his marital status, Ohtanis, a two-way superstar for the Dodgers, makes his debut on Thursday.

Ohtani said he was married to a Japanese woman in a late-February Instagram post, but he withheld her identity. Ohtani has 7.4 million Instagram followers.

“To all my friends and fans throughout, I wanted to let you know that I’m getting married. I’ve started a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I’ve also started a new life with someone from my native Japan who is very special to me,” the two-time AL MVP wrote on social media.

Mamiko, a 5-foot-11 center, is said to have played for the Fujitsu Red Wave from 2019 to 23.

As The Athletic noted in February, she and Ohtani have known one another “for around three-to-four years.”

When the Dodgers played the Padres in Seoul to begin the season earlier this spring, Mamiko traveled to South Korea to join Ohtani.

Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with the Dodgers in December, and he is currently in his debut season with them.

The previous six seasons were spent by him with the Angels.

The season began in a cloudy manner when Ohtani’s longtime interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, was accused of embezzling millions from the MLB star’s bank account to pay off gambling debts, despite the Dodgers leading the NL West at 20-13.

Mizhurara was accused of bank fraud last month, and he turned himself in to federal investigators.

Ohtani expressed his gratitude for the Department of Justice’s inquiry last month, as reported by the Los Angeles Times. “This is a break for me personally, and I’d like to concentrate on baseball.”
