The Rangers RHP prospect pitched 6 innings on Thursday and only allowed one hit.
Jack Leiter demonstrated a strong desire to earn a recall to the Texas Rangers’ roster through his pitching performance. During Thursday’s game, Leiter delivered an outstanding performance, pitching six innings without conceding any runs and allowing just one hit.
He also showcased his striking ability by recording eight strikeouts. Leiter took the mound for Triple-A Round Rock following his option back to the minors by the Rangers on April 19, while pitcher Owen White was recalled in his place.
Drafted as the second overall pick in the 2021 MLB Draft by the Rangers, Jack Leiter, a 21-year-old pitcher from Vanderbilt University, held the No. 8 prospect position according to the Dallas Morning News in 2024. However, his debut start for the Rangers on April 18 presented a mixed performance. While showcasing some of the qualities that made him a highly sought-after prospect, such as his potent fastball, Leiter, aged 23, struggled, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and three walks in just 3 and 2/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers.
The start is a promising sign for Leiter, who has struggled with command of his fastball and slider. With the likes of Max Scherzer on the verge of a return to major league action, it’s yet to be seen where Leiter will fit in on the roster.
