Given that Max Scherzer initiated a rehab assignment on Wednesday evening at Triple-A Round Rock, it could be beneficial to provide an update on the progress of the Texas Rangers’ other notable starting pitchers who are also recovering from injuries.
The pitcher, who underwent Tommy John elbow ligament reconstruction surgery on May 22 of the previous year, is currently throwing bullpen sessions twice a week. Last week, he integrated his full repertoire of pitches into these sessions. Although he is uncertain about the exact timeline for facing hitters, he will join the Rangers on their upcoming road trip as part of his ongoing rehabilitation process. According to Rangers GM, there have been no setbacks, and the pitcher expressed optimism about his progress, stating, “Everything feels great… It’s going about as well as it could go.”
The Rangers had initially indicated Mahle could return sometime in July. They have not changed or amended that schedule.
Jacob deGrom: The right-handed pitcher is currently throwing off flat ground from a distance of 90 feet, with plans to gradually increase to 105 and then 120 feet. DeGrom underwent elbow ligament reconstruction surgery on June 12, 2023, and is expected to be approximately three weeks behind Mahle’s recovery timeline. The Rangers are optimistic about deGrom’s potential return in August.
Cody Bradford: The left-handed pitcher received a cortisone injection last week to address inflammation related to his lower back strain. There is no specific timetable for his return. Manager Bruce Bochy mentioned that Bradford is “making progress,” but did not provide further details.
