At Truist Park on Wednesday night, the Atlanta Braves secured the sweep by defeating the Miami Marlins 4-3 in the ninth inning of play. Before three straight singles off of reliever Raisel Iglesias and a two-run Matt Olson fielding error knotted the game and brought it to extra innings, the Braves appeared to be coasting to a 3-1 victory in regulation. With his second walk-off Һit of the season, Michael Harris II drove Ronald Acuña Jr. from second base with the second pitch of the bottom of the 10th inning to left-center.
Tonight, Reynaldo Lopez maintained his supremacy.
One of Atlanta’s top starts this season is López, who was signed this summer with the intention of moving him from relief to the starting lineup. Jesús Sánchez’s solo home run in the second inning was the only damage done to López, who had an ERA of 0.50 going into this game. After pitching seven complete innings, López struck out six while walking two and giving up just one run on three hits. Many believed that he could have continued in the game if Atlanta had required more innings, given that he only threw 82 pitches, 55 of which were strikes. However, the Braves starters performed admirably throughout this series, meaning the bullpen was well-rested.
The starting pitchers in this series have been excellent; sure, they have faced the Marlins, a bad baseball team, but the numbers speak for themselves: one earned run in 22.2 innings, one complete game, and two more appearances into the seventh inning.
Marcell Ozuna is still leading the аttаck.
Over the first month of the season, “The Big Bear” has been among the best hitters in baseball; going into tonight’s game, he leads the league in both home runs (nine) and RBIs (twenty-seven). Even though Ozuna failed to draw a crowd tonight, he produced RBI singles in his first two at-bats to give Atlanta a lead in the first and third innings, respectively. With three hits in the end,
Matt Olson eventually got a base Һit in the third inning with a double to right field (and came around to score on an Ozuna base Һit), while Michael Harris II went 3-for-5 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI in extra innings. In the first inning, Ronald Acuña Jr. stole his 11th base of the season, tying MLB leader Elly De La Cruz of the Cincinnati Reds, while the Braves finished with eleven hits, including two extra-base hits.
Orlando Arcia might put in a Gold Glove campaign.
After Dansby Swanson left in free agency after the 2022 season to join the Chicago Cubs, there were concerns over Atlanta’s infield defense.
We can safely sаy that we have answered some of those queries. Orlando Arcia is batting over.300 and ranks second among shortstops in 2024 in Outs Above Average, demonstrating his excellent defensive play this season. The Braves executed two double plays tonight, with Arcia and Luis Guillorme showing off their skills and Arcia nailing some baserunners with his powerful right arm, including what could have been the game-winning run from Miami in the ninth inning.
In the tenth inning, Austin Riley, not to be outdone, stopped the potential game-winning Miami run at the plate with a fantastic defensive play.
The one stain on Atlanta’s infielders’ fantastic series was Matt Olson’s regrettable two-run fielding error in the game’s ninth inning tonight.
