Adolis García faced a barrage of boos throughout the evening at Minute Maid Park. From the moment he was introduced in the lineup to his first plate appearance and every subsequent one, including after two separate stolen bases, it was evident that García wasn’t well-received by the fans down south.
However, García is no newcomer to receiving boos in Houston. And as he has done on numerous occasions before, he swiftly silenced them once again.
The Rangers’ standout outfielder had an impressive performance, going 2-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs, contributing to the team’s significant 12-8 win over the Astros on Friday night in front of a crowd of 39,842 booing fans.
“I tried my best to block out the noise from the crowd,” García commented. “My focus was on having quality at-bats. However, it’s satisfying to perform well despite facing opposition from the crowd. It’s all part of the game, and it’s gratifying knowing that even those against me are still invested in the excitement of the game.”
If they paid for a show, he definitely gives it to them.
“When you’re getting booed, you’re doing something right,” added catcher Jonah Heim, who had a three-run homer of his own. “Adolis has done really well in this building specifically, but also against the Astros. He loves RBIs, so hopefully he keeps doing that.” García’s reputation for launching impressive home runs and showcasing dramatic bat flips made his contribution on Friday even more remarkable, as it didn’t rely on his usual power hitting.
Both of his RBI singles were struck with significant force, with exit velocities of 110.9 and 107.8 mph. What stood out was that both hits were directed to the opposite field, indicating García’s emphasis on advancing the runners rather than solely aiming for massive home runs. Furthermore, he achieved his first multiwalk game of the year, showcasing his development in finding the right balance between aggression and selectivity at the plate.
