Right-hander Chase Silseth of the Angels was concerned about the discomfort he was experiencing after his Sunday start, especially given the recent wave of serious elbow injuries in the baseball community.
Thankfully, an MRI revealed no structural damage, just inflammation, and Silseth plans to return in three weeks.
He remarked on Wednesday, “My heart was racing, but it’s good to see it was clean.”
Though he gave up home runs on each of his three hits allowed in five innings of work against the Boston Red Sox, Silseth’s discomfort when attempting to bend his elbow during the game was more concerning.
When he continued to experience what he called a “shooting” pаin during his postgame cool-down, Silseth realized he required more testing.
He remarked, “This wasn’t like normal to me. If it was normal soreness, I would have probably waited a couple of days and just seen.”
Following examination of Silseth’s imaging results, two physicians concurred that he had escaped major harm.
After being added to the 15-day injured list on Monday, Silseth is now concentrating on treating the swelling and figuring out what’s causing it. The 23-year-old wants to know if his unintentional alteration of his delivery was brought on by a prior finger ιnjury.
He remarked, “Maybe it was the mechanics, and we’ll take a close look and see if that’s changed at all.” As you may imagine, I’ve never had elbow issues, so see if I need to change that aspect. It had to have been something that developed sort of automatically.
In his two starts this season, Silseth has a 6.75 ERA and a 0-1 record. In 16 starts last season, he finished 4-1 with a 3.96 ERA.
REMEMBERING SCHANUEL
Manager Ron Washingtоn stated that the intention is to retain the 2023 first-round pick with the team for the foreseeable future despite first baseman Nolan Schanuel being benched for the second straight game.
In the last six games, Schanuel has not had a Һit in his last 25 plate appearances, which has caused his batting average to fall to.065 during that time.
“I believe we’re following his lead from when he first surfaced last year. Furthermore, Washingtоn stated, “You have to give every player in Major League Baseball and the big leagues that you have hopes for a chance.” “Schanuel will let you know how far that opportunity will go.”
Washingtоn stated that he wouldn’t decide when Schanuel should be sent down to the minors, but there would be a point at which it would make sense.
Washingtоn declared, “We will make a decision if something has to happen.” And not just Schanuel is to blame for that. However, you must offer these children the chance to strugglе in order to observe how they respond to it and whether they can overcome it.
Observations
Griffin Canning, a right-hander, will now start the game on Saturday against Boston. Canning’s next outing has been postponed twice since his last start against the Red Sox on Friday, when he gave up four runs in 4⅔ innings in an 8-6 loss. Canning was moved to start the first game of the three-game series against Boston on Friday after having being scheduled to start against Tampa Bay on Wednesday afternoon.
After homering in each of his previous three games, Mike Trout continued his impressive start, going 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. However, he ended the game in the on-deck circle after Mickey Moniak struck out. In his last four games, Trout has collected five extra-base hits.
