Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama both had impressive performances in the Denver Nuggets vs San Antonio Spurs match on April 3.

Wembanyama almost set a new standard for himself with 23 points, 15 rebounds, 8 assists and 9 blocks. No one in NBA history has been able to achieve such performance. As for Jokic, he still maintains his “usual” performance. The number of 42 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocks is enough to show the class of the Nuggets star.

The direct confrontations on the field between Wembanyama and Jokic really push the dramatic competition to a climax.

The NBA should feel lucky to have the appearance of this pair of excellent rivals. Jokic is still proving “unmatched” on his journey to winning the MVP title for the third time. However, he should be careful from now on, because Wembanyama is now a top player. Wemby has enough potential to surpass Jokic in the future – especially now that the Serbian star is 29 years old.

Admittedly, no one can stop Jokic right now. According to Stathead , the Nuggets’ center averaged 37.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 6.7 assists with a 60% scoring rate when facing the Spurs this season.

However, Wembanyama made successful efforts when marking Jokic. The young French player has had 6 successful Jokic blocks  , more than anyone. Wembanyama’s 8-foot-long arm span often causes trouble for Joker throughout the meetings between the two teams.

Even Jokic admits this. “I told Wemby to try blocking one more shot, but then he did it 4 times” – the 2023 NBA champion expressed helplessness when facing Wembanyama.

Of course, there are still times when Jokic surpasses Wembanyama – the Serbian striker still has a scoring rate of 56.3% in direct duels. But it’s clear that as the 20-year-old develops and improves in strength, this fight will certainly be much more fierce.
