Recently, a Mid-Pacific alumna has gained attention as the Los Angeles Dodgers’ new interpreter for Japanese player Shohei Ohtani.Will Ireton, a 2007 Mid-Pacific alum, has been assigned by the Dodgers to translate Ohtani’s remarks for the media and the global audience.It follows the team’s dismissal of Ippei Mizuhara, Ohtani’s former interpreter, for reportedly taking more than $4 million from the player to settle debts related to gambling.He provided Ohtani’s translation at a press conference regarding the gambling accusations earlier this week.From baseball to swimming to sports legends, Steve has the most recent local and national sports news.Ireton, well known by his nickname “Will the Thrill,” has managed the Dodgers’ performance operations since 2020. Prior to that, he was the team’s translator for Japanese pitcher Kenta Maeda.Although he was born in Japan, he spent his teenage years in Hawaii.He played baseball for Mid-Pacific School, where he attended. He continued playing baseball at Menlo College and Occidental College. He rose to the position of class valedictorian at Menlo.
