Before the Seoul Series, Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers exhibit their Korean pride

Posting a snapshot to his personal Instagram account on Tuesday, Shohei Ohtani—a two-way star for the Los Angeles Dodgers—showed himself posing with a finger heart in front of a wall adorned with English and Korean references to the impending MLB Seoul Series.

Ohtani shared the photo that the Dodgers had uploaded, which included a Korean Taegukgi flag sticker. In preparation for next week’s Seoul Series in Korea, the Dodgers posted a series of images to their official team Instagram account on Friday, including players posing in front of a wall. Ohtani wasn’t the only one who tried a uniquely Korean pose; Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Freddie Freeman did a full two-handed heart, James Outman and Max Muncy did the half-heart-to-the-cheek, and most of the other players at least tried a classic V.

Upon his arrival in Seoul later this week, Ohtani—possibly the most recognized baseball player in the world—will most certainly be greeted by an enormously enthusiastic crowd. Because of the long-standing animosity between the two nations, even when it comes to sports, his reposting of the Dodgers’ photo was met with great approval in this region. On Sunday, the Dodgers will play their first game in Korea at Gocheok Sky Dome in western Seoul against the Kiwoom Heroes. They will arrive in Korea on Friday. The 2024 Major League Baseball season will officially begin on Wednesday, when they play the Korean national team. The following day, they play a two-game series against the San Diego Padres.
