On Saturday afternoon, Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes debuted a special pair of denim cleats. However, he said after a spring training game against the Twins that he would no longer be wearing the flashy shoes.
The light blue spikes were made fun of by the Yankees’ X account, which shared a picture of them before the game and called them “jeats.”
But Cortes didn’t have the best day on the hill because he gave up six earned runs and nine hits in 3.1 innings. However, Greg Allen couldn’t catch a three-run triple that scored half of his runs. The 29-year-old told the New York Post that he was done wearing the boots afterward.
He said, “I’m trying to add a little flair.” “I believe many people did not enjoy it.” Cortes only played in 12 games last year because of an injury to his shoulder cuff. He also said that he was glad the Yankees made it through their trip to Fort Myers, Florida without getting hurt.
“My goal for coming here was to get my pitch count back up to around 60 or so, with four ups.” “The best part was that I came out healthy,” he told The Post.”I’m happy with my body what it is right now.” I might have been able to direct a few pitches better, but other than that, I was happy.
They lost to the Twins 10–7 on Saturday.
They have a few more practice games before their first game of the season on March 28 against the Astros.
