Former baseball player Mayfield is 28 years old. Actually, it’s the main reason he’s a quarterback in the NFL now. Mayfield reportedly aspired to play wide receiver during his fifth grade football tryouts, as reported by Tulsa World. On the other hand, he was benched at quarterback after a coach saw him play baseball.

As a football and baseball player at Austin, Texas’s Lake Travis High School, he was a key cog in the baseball team’s historic first trip to the state playoffs. He played college football at Texas Tech and then Oklahoma.

Since the Cleveland Browns selected Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick in the 2018 draft, it appeared to be the correct decision. He had a brief stint with the Rams in 2022 before being traded to the Panthers; last summer, he inked a one-year deal with Tampa Bay.

Jenna Laine of ESPN reports that a new contract between Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is “slowly” in the works. Mayfield can be pursued by other teams during the legal negotiation window, which opens on March 11.
