Baseball Bombshell: Shohei Ohtani’s Curveball of Love – Ties the Knot 48 Hours After Dodgers Spring Training Debut

For Shohei Ohtani, joining the Los Angeles Dodgers won’t be the only significant adjustment this season.

The famous MLB player revealed his marriage on Instagram on Thursday. Famously reserved about his personal life, Ohtani revealed nothing about his marriage or his new spouse other than the fact that she is Japanese. His dog, Dekopin/Decoy, is the only image in his announcement post.

In the late afternoon in Japan, and late at night in the United States, came the news.

The entire caption by Ohtani:

I would want to announce something to all of my friends and supporters throughout:

I wanted to let everyone know that I’m married. In addition to starting a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, I also started a new life with someone from my native Japan who is very significant to me.

I appreciate your support and am looking forward to what is ahead.

Ohtani is starting to develop a pattern of revealing big news with sudden Instagram postings; previously in the offseason, he used his account to reveal that he was finalizing a deal with the Dodgers. At that point, his deal was said to be worth a record $700 million, with $680 million to be paid later.

In an interview with media in Arizona on Thursday, Ohtani gave a few more facts about his marriage. According to Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times, Ohtani has known her for three or four years and referred to her as “a normal Japanese woman”—that is, not a celebrity.

According to reports, he would not reveal when they were married, but he did declare that the relationship had no influence on his wife’s support when he decided to join with the Dodgers.

Two days following his successful spring training debut with the Dodgers, the 29-year-old announced his marriage. Ohtani, one of baseball’s most feared batters, displayed the power that makes him a threat in his third at-bat of the game against the Chicago White Sox, launching a two-run home bomb into opposite field.

The Dodgers will take on the San Diego Padres in South Korea on March 20 to kick off their season. Maybe Ohtani’s spouse will be present.
