The 2024 Los Angeles Dodgers spring training schedule had a brief break on Wednesday morning for Photo Day at Camelback Ranch.
Dodgers players gathered to take individual and group pictures for the regular season, along with some taking part in promotional videos that will be played at Dodger Stadium and for commercials.
The 2024 Dodgers roster features an influx of new faces, with Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto easily the most regarded among that group. The Japanese natives had a relationship prior to both signing with the Dodgers this past offseason, and while it’s provided some sense of comfort, Ohtani and Yamamoto have quickly engrained themselves with new teammates.
During Dodgers Photo Day, the team shared a video of fellow newcomer Teoscar Hernández teaching Spanish to Ohtani and Yamamoto.
Ohtani begins by repeating Hernández to say “good morning” in Spanish, “buenos días.”
As Ohtani shows his new Dodgers jersey, which has been part of the MLB-Fanatics controversy because of the design changes, Hernández then implores him to say good morning to the fans. Ohtani double-checks the pronunciation before looking into the camera and repeating, “Buenos días, fanáticos.”
After the quick lesson with Ohtani, Hernández shifts his focus to Yamamoto, who also participated by saying “good morning” in Spanish.
Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto not playing Thursday
The Dodgers open their Cactus League schedule on Thursday with a road matchup against the San Diego Padres. Although Ohtani has progressed well with his recovery from last year’s right elbow surgery and right oblique irritation, he won’t be in the Dodgers lineup for their first spring training game of 2024.
Likewise, Yamamoto is not starting at the Peoria Sports Complex.
