Along with his superstar status, Shohei Ohtani brought an enormous surge of optimism when he signed a historic contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

While playing with the Angels, Ohtani wore the No. 17 jersey that Joe Kelly had worn for the Dodgers. Ohtani offered Kelly’s wife Ashley a new Porsche after the seasoned reliever provided his number to the new Dodgers superstar.

Kelly brought out the fact that Ohtani’s choice to give up the number was so easy due to his prominent stature. But Ashley started a social media campaign with a plethora of photos and videos under the hashtag “Ohtake17” that was a major factor in the move.

Ohtani expressed his gratitude and enjoyment of Ashley’s films through interpreter Ippei Mizuhara, as reported by SportsNet LA:

Ohtani is a Porsche representative, and the other people on Kelly’s list for the number exchange remain unknown. Although Ohtani’s move was costly, he should make good use of the No. 17 jersey as he is committed to the Dodgers for the next ten years, unlike Kelly, who is only guaranteed one more season.

Much of the attention this offseason has been focused on Ohtani, but the Dodgers have also had a fantastic offseason, acquiring Yoshinobu Yamamot, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernández, and others.
