The Los Angeles Dodgers are known for their strong tradition of teamwork and friendship, which is particularly evident throughout the long 162-game season.
In spite of all the changes that occurred throughout the summer, they were still able to achieve remarkable success in 2023 because in part to their consistently strong team camaraderie.
The Dodgers may need some time to regain the chemistry they experienced last season due to the large number of new players joining the lineup this year.
But the Dodgers have a strategy to make that changeover as smooth as possible.
Veteran infielder Miguel Rojas discussed the unusual Dodgers ritual of new player initiation on The Chris Rose Rotation. He divulged the fact that the team bus bathroom serves as a funny consequence for those who fail to share a personal narrative during the initiation ritual.
Even though Shohei Ohtani has a $700 million contract, Rojas claims that it doesn’t absolve him from the custom.
“Shohei, I’m telling you this right this second. On your first bus ride, you should bring the necessary items. Reason being: rules are rules. We are interested in hearing their backstories, the paths they took to becoming prominent MLB players, and the origins of their careers in Japan and elsewhere.
Rose inquired of Rojas whether he could strike a deal with his teammates to avoid having to provide a narrative.
“I would prefer to spend the rest of my life reminiscing about Ohtani than to receive $100,000.”
Ohtani may be the greatest baseball player of all time, but there is still a lot we don’t know about him outside of baseball. Rojas, like the rest of the Dodgers, is probably eager to find out more about his new partner.
Ohtani should be prepared to tell a story to his new colleagues on the first bus trip (unless, of course, he would rather just sit on the toilet).
