Shohei Ohtani’s $700 million deal with the Dodgers drives up the price of Spring Training tickets in Arizona

It was enormous news when the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Shohei Ohtani; his arrival might change the course of the team’s history. As 2024 World Series favorites, the Dodgers will be hoping this deal marks the beginning of a golden age for the team.

The media attention and high expectations have led to a natural spike in ticket prices for Dodgers games, as fans eagerly await the debut of their new lucky charm.

This is understandable given the high demand for Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernandez, and the Dodgers’ current players.

Before Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, tickets were $12 per game, with an additional $5 per seat available for purchase on game day, according to the Dodgers Blue website. Currently, the average price for Spring Training tickets is $40.

According to Cactus League President Bridget Binsbacher, lawn tickets for the first Spring Training game are $47, and tickets for the major games may go up.

“Historically, we’ve seen where, you know, when a team’s in a World Series, coming off of a season like that, that definitely impacts attendance for Spring Training,” said Binsbacher. With Shohei Ohtani in the lineup, Opening Day tickets for the Dodgers have skyrocketed.

According to sources, the price of Opening Day tickets has risen significantly, but Spring Training tickets may have remained relatively unchanged. Opening Day tickets for the Los Angeles Dodgers have soared by 152%, according to figures from Logitix.

The average price for Opening Day tickets was $390.95 before Shohei Ohtani revealed his destination. But, the average ticket has increased to $983.71 since the agreement of the $700 million transaction.

The 2024 season will not include this motif. The average price will go up, but not by that much for each individual game. The average price of a ticket in 2024 will be $295, up from $171.67 in the previous season.

Whether or not the average ticket price keeps going up next season and whether or not prices keep surging depends on how quickly Los Angeles gets off the ground.
