She started the #Ohtake17 social media campaign even before that, subtly urging him to sign a Dodgers contract. In a humorous way, she reached out to Ohtani and showed him every piece of No. 17 clothing in the family closet that he and his family might wear. She even proposed to call the child of the pair “ShoKai”.

Ashley Kelly was taken aback when Ohtani gave her a brand-new silver Porsche, demonstrating his appreciation for her campaign:

“You own it. By way of Shohei,” the delivery man informed her. “He wanted to gift you a Porsche.”

“I wasn’t going to give it up to just anybody,” Kelly stated. “Shohei will be able to retire my number and become a future Hall of Famer if he continues to perform.” I’ll never be able to visit the Hall of Fame till then.” [via ESPN].

In 2024, Kelly will don the No. 99 jersey for the Dodgers, having formally given up the No. 17 jersey.
