Freddie Freeman Shines for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, Looking Ahead to 2024 Season
Freddie Freeman delivered yet another outstanding season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, solidifying his position as a key member of their lineup and earning recognition from Major League Baseball at the end of the season.
The 2023 season started strong for Freeman, hitting.292/.377/.451 from Opening Day through the end of April. He recorded 33 hits, with 10 of them resulting in extra bases.
May was a standout month for Freeman, earning him NL Player of the Month honors. He had an incredible batting average of.400, along with an impressive.722 slugging percentage over 28 games. During May, Freeman went 46-for-115, hitting six home runs, driving in 26 runs, scoring 28 runs, and collecting 17 doubles, one triple, and four stolen bases.
Freeman showcased his consistency by hitting safely in all but two games in May, and he embarked on a remarkable 20-game hitting streak from May 10 through June 2. Setting a Dodgers franchise record, he accumulated 24 extra-base hits during this period, surpassing the previous records held by Babe Herman (July 1930) and Duke Snider (June 1954).
The 34-year-old first baseman was a consistent presence in the Dodgers’ lineup throughout the entire 2023 regular season, missing just one game, which came after the team clinched the NL West title.
For the season, Freeman boasted an impressive.331/.410/.567 slash line with 29 home runs, 131 runs scored, and 102 RBI. He set a Dodgers franchise record with 59 doubles and exceeded the 200-hit mark for the first time in his career, collecting a total of 211 hits.
Although Freeman finished third in the National League MVP voting, behind Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Atlanta Braves and his teammate Mookie Betts, he still received First Team All-MLB honors for his exceptional performance.
One of Freeman’s standout games occurred on July 22, when the Dodgers dominated the Texas Rangers in a 16-3 victory at Globe Life Field. He started with a single in the first inning, followed by a solo home run in the third. In the fourth inning, Freeman added a two-run shot to further extend the lead. He finished the game 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Freeman is expected to continue playing a pivotal role in the heart of the Dodgers’ lineup. While it may be challenging to surpass his remarkable 2023 season, Freeman’s consistent performance and the talent surrounding him should keep him in favorable positions. The additions of Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernández bring even more power to the team, adding consistency throughout the lineup.
After a career-high in runs scored (131), Freeman’s ability to get on base will position him for similar production in the upcoming season. As the Dodgers prepare for another exciting year, fans can expect Freeman to continue his impressive contributions to the team’s success.
