Shohei Ohtani, the new LA Dodgers acquisition, accepted the AL MVP trophy on Saturday. The MLB community was stunned by his speech, which he gave entirely in English. This winter, the Japanese two-way star stole the show as he became a free agent and signed the largest contract in league history with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Since joining the LA Angels in 2018 after joining Japan’s NPB, Ohtani has swept the MLB. After earning the AL Rookie of the Year title, he got off to a great start and has gone on to win two AL MVP awards in addition to almost every other individual honor that is given out. He spent six years with the Angels before becoming a free agent at the end of the previous campaign. The Dodgers then signed him to a ten-year, $700 million contract.
Ohtani’s heroics on both sides of the ball earned him the title of AL MVP for the 2023 campaign. Prior to the injury, he was among the top three pitchers in the AL and led the league in home runs during the first half of the season.
Throughout the season, there were numerous instances in which the Japanese player brought the Angels to victory on his own. He touched many when he acknowledged his old squad in his AL MVP victory speech.
An MVP fan tweeted, “Best speech to happen in MVP history,” “The goat,” someone else said.
Dodgers teammate Shohei Ohtani gives him great accolades from
The greatest story in MLB throughout this year’s offseason has been Shohei Ohtani’s trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Ohtani has already made an impression on his teammates, but the Dodgers fan base as a whole is eager to watch their new hero in action. Gavin Lux, a shortstop who trained with Ohtani, is one of them. He said the following:
“He’s simply a lot of fun to be around.” Though he gets his work done, he keeps things pretty light. He’s working out in the weight room, busting his ass.”
