End of free agency: Yankees make minimal bids to strengthen bullpen

The Yankees have spoken with Hector Neris, Phil Maton, Ryan Brasier, and Wandy Peralta, who are all prospects for the bullpen. However, they are said to be offering low prices, maybe because of the calendar or because of how they see the supply and demand. Keynan Middleton might be recalled instead, as YES’s Jack Curry pointed out. Not only that, he would be more affordable.

Even though the Yankees extended an offer to Blake Snell, his camp believes that the team is hesitant to pay what they call a “market” bid due in part to the disappointing rookie season for Carlos Rodon, who received $162 million. The Snell camp emphasizes that Snell stands out due to his two Cy Young awards, his lack of Tommy John surgery, his improved platform year, and his more recent innings (486 —/ₜ since 2020).

In an interview with Aaron Boone of The New York Post’s podcast “The Show,” Rodon’s management, said that the player is intent on making the most of his second year in Tampa. Boone has been with the team for two weeks.

There was an early recommendation to sign Snell from Gerrit Cole and Aaron Judge, but the parties are too divided for that to have any effect.

Jung Hoo Lee was coveted by several teams before he was traded to the Giants for $113 million, including the Padres and the Yankees.

Hitters are being considered by the Mets, Angels, and Diamondbacks as well. Before Rhys Hoskins went to the Brewers, the Giants tried to get him, so maybe they are doing it again. If the Rangers’ local TV problem is fixed, they might as well as well.

Another top-tier DH in that market is J.D. Martinez. There are still great choices like Justin Turner, Tommy Pham, and Eddie Rosario.

Joey Votto has piqued the curiosity of other organizations, including the Angels. The eventual signing of Votto by the local Jays would, of course, come as no surprise to anyone.

The Red Sox and the Angels are both looking at Adam Duvall.
