According to reports, the New York Yankees will appear somewhat different when they travel during the 2024 season.
The “white outlining on the chest lettering and back number” and the “decorative trim on the sleeve cuffs” of the Yankees’ road jerseys, which have been in place since 1973, will be removed during the 2019 season, according to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch, who cited the 2024 MLB Style Guide.
For the first time since 2016, when the team switched from glossy to matte helmets and shortened the distance between “New” and “York” on the front, New York will be wearing a different road uniform.
“If this is really happening, it would make a plain design even plainer,” Lukas stated. “But the Yanks could probably sell it as a legacy move, since it matches what the team wore for many decades in the flannel era.”
With 27 World Series victories and some of the most recognizable players in baseball history, the Yankees are a team steeped in tradition.
They frequently don’t make many modifications, including to the clothing, because of this tradition. However, after coming so close in the previous years, fans will undoubtedly be okay with it if they overcome the Һump and win title No. 28.
Having made it to the postseason the previous six years, New York missed the playoffs in 2023. During that span, the team suffered three losses in the American League Championship Series, for a total of five ALCS losses since the team’s last trip to the Fall Classic in 2009.
For many teams, a 14-year title drought isn’t all that lengthy, but for the Yankees, it feels like a lifetime.
In an effort to advance and try to improve their recent postseason results in a new road uniform, they made a notable offseason trade for Juan Soto.
