Even though they’ve had a fantastic offseason thus far, the New York Yankees could use one or two more moves.
Even though the team has made great strides, the New York Mets still haven’t fixed their bullpen. It is uncertain whether some of the Yankees’ top relievers from 2023 will return for 2024 as they are currently free agents.
Wandy Peralta was one of New York’s top alternatives in the bullpen last season. The veteran left-handed pitcher was phenomenal for the Mets in 63 appearances, posting a 2.83 ERA and a 51-to-30 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 54 innings of work.
Among the free-agent relievers, he has been in high demand this offseason, with the Yankees showing the greatest interest. According to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, New York is still trying to get everyone back together.
“The Yankees have shown in recent years that if there’s anything they know how to do well, it’s building one of the best bullpens in the game,” said Kuty. A source familiar with the team’s personnel decisions revealed that, despite ongoing communication, Wandy Peralta and the organization have not been able to reach an agreement.
Late last year, Peralta had trouble with his left triceps. But we’re still holding out hope that they’ll find a way to re-sign the long-serving fan favorite.
It would be a fantastic move on the part of the Yankees to re-sign the 32-year-old. He has been a revelation for the Yankees over the past two seasons and might be an even bigger asset for the team in 2024.
