A Rep For Shohei Ohtani Refrained From Contacting Steve Cohen, Owner Of The Mets

Despite competition from other teams, the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to sign Shohei Ohtani, a superstar in both baseball and softball, to a record-breаking salary during the offseason.

The Dodgers can keep spending every year thanks to Ohtani’s 10-year, $700 million contract, because most of his money is postponed.

It came down to personal taste and which teams were willing to accept Ohtani’s offer because he extended it to all of his finalists. Included in the mix were the following teams at different points in time: the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago Cubs, the San Francisco Giants, the San Diego Padres, the Texas Rangers, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

Even though Steve Cohen and the New York Mets had more money than any other team, they were never really involved. According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Cohen also said that he never had any contact with Nez Balelo, who is Ohtani’s agent:

To hear Cohen tell it to The Athletic, “the agent never reached out to me personally.”

Cohen’s capacity to dish out massive contracts makes him a major player in MLB when it comes to financial power, but Ohtani had other plans.

Even though the Mets didn’t receive Ohtani’s offer, it’s safe to assume that Cohen would have been prepared to satisfy Ohtani’s expectations if he had desired to play for New York.

The Mets’ pursuit of Yoshinobu Yamamoto was hindered by Shohei Ohtani.

The Mets and Dodgers were in a bidding wаr for Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s services after Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, shifting the attention of numerous teams to Yamamoto.

The 25-year-old was allegedly the subject of many meetings between Cohen, Yamamoto, and his representatives in the hopes that they would not be outbid. Mets recruiters, though, tried to cast Ohtani’s new standing with the Dodgers in a negаtive light.
