It appears that Shohei Ohtani has developed a habit of making unexpected appearances. Following its unexpected appearance at the US Embassy in Japan, the two-way phenomenon has caused a massive media frenzy. More surprises like these from the renownedly private superstar are usually eagerly anticipated by the fans. Thus, Ohtani has granted their wishes once more by making another unexpected entrance.

This was not, however, a physical manifestation as in the past. Fans were nonetheless amazed by Shotime’s surprise attendance at the Japan Sports Awards Committee, even if Ohtani had come to deliver a video message.

Soon after reading the heartwarming tale of Ohtani obtaining a visa for his pet Decoy, fans were still reeling. They can now grin as Ohtani makes another appearance. The 72nd Japan Sports Awards Ceremony took place in Tokyo on January 18. Ohtani’s presence was partially prompted by his and Samurai Japan’s victory in this competition.

In March 2023, the Samurai Japan claimed their third WBC title. Thus, in recognition of this tremendous accomplishment, the committee chose to give the team the Grand Prix. It went without saying that the captain of Samurai Japan would be present to accept the prize, which is regarded as one of the most prestigious in all of Japan.

Despite being unable to attend in person, Ohtani expressed his gratitude via a video message in which he celebrated the team’s WBC victory. Fans were enthralled with this unexpected turn of events. They didn’t take long to notice that Ohtani appeared more fit in this video than in the previous one. As the athlete prepared to make his diamond comeback following surgery on his elbow, supporters expected him to do greater feats.

Shotime’s past involvement in the Grand Prix

The Grand Prix has been won twice by Shohei Ohtani. In 2016 at first, and again in 2018. The year 2019–2021 saw no awarding of the prize. Though it’s hard to predict if Ohtani would have triumphed once more in 2021, he is one of the select handful to have won the prize more than once. With just three victories between him and Ichiro Suzuki, Sadaharu Oh, and him.

Though it’s possible that Ohtani will soon overtake them given that he’s still at the height of his abilities. Perhaps Ohtani’s success story is just beginning, as the Los Angeles Dodgers aim to establish a dynasty.
