The 2024–25 New York Yankees have inked a future outfielder to a contract as they begin to assemble their international signing class.
Francisco Vilorio, ranked fifteenth in the 2024 class by MLB Pipeline, has inked a deal with the Yankees. There has been no formal announcement or reporting of the deal.
The Yankees lost $1 million after signing Carlos Rodon last offseason, reducing their $4.265 million in international signing bonus money to $4.265 million. This is due to the fact that the Yankees had to fork over $1 million to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for Rodon’s signature, which he turned down.
Last year, one of the Yankees’ international signees played outfield in the Major Leagues. Last September, Jasson Domínguez made his Major League Baseball debut after signing the biggest bonus in Yankees history, a $5.1 million deal in 2019. Having undergone Tommy John surgery, he is presently recuperating.
That, however, is representative of the length of time that certain international prоspects spend on the road to the Majors. Despite being a highly-touted prоspect, Domínguez needed to spend another four years in the lower leagues to be prepared to play in the majors.
Brando Mayea, the ninth-ranked prоspect on MLB Pipeline’s top 50 list in January of last year, was reportedly signed by the Yankees for $4.35 million. The entire year of 2023 was Mayea’s Dominican Summer League career, during which she Һit.276 with three home runs and eighteen RBI. Mayea is expected to be Major League ready in 2028 and is ranked as the Yankees’ No. 9 prоspect in their organization.
The MLB Pipeline describes Vilorio as “a tall, projectable outfielder with power potential and the ability to impact the game in various ways.” He can also be used as a batsman in the middle of the order.
