The Dodgers’ Dino Ebel says, ‘We got a great chance to win a World Series’ when asked about the expectations around their strong club and Shohei Ohtani

Following the club’s lavish signings of elite free agents, Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Dino Ebel is extremely optimistic about the team’s prospects. This summer, the Los Angeles Dodgers signed Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani, two Japanese players, to massive contracts. Because of this, the Los Angeles Dodgers will enter the next season with the best chance of winning the World Series.

In a recent appearance on SportsNet LA, the third base coach spoke about Ohtani and the high hopes for the talented squad:

“Well, Shohei is one of the best players in the world,” stated Ebel. Everyone now knows that he is a caring person, and what a wonderful guy he is. His only concern is winning. Seeing him and the other player work out in the stadium the other day made me pleased. You have no idea how thrilled we are as a group; the Los Angeles fans adore you, as I informed Shohei. We have a fantastic shot at winning the World Series, and I’m overjoyed that he will be a part of it.

According to Ebel, this will allow Shohei to focus on hurting the plate and taking care of his arm in 2024, when he won’t be able to pitch. This will allow him to refine his two-way ability in 2025.

The management career of Dino Ebel

At the end of the 1997 season, Ebel took over as manager of the San Bernardino squad, marking the beginning of his management career. The Great Falls Dodgers, a team in the Pioneer League’s rookie level, went 40–35 under his leadership in 1998. When the 1999 Class A-Short-Season Northwest League season began, he oversaw the Yakima Bears.

Returning to San Bernardino, Dino Ebel guided them to the 2000 California League crown. In the following season, he led the Class A South Atlantic League’s Wilmington Waves to a 75-63 record. Up until 2004, he oversaw the Jacksonville Suns as their manager.

After leading the Pacific Coast League’s Salt Lake Stingers to a 79–65 record in 2005, Ebel became an employee of the Los Angeles Angels organization. Following Joe Maddon’s departure from the Los Angeles Angels to manage the Tampa Bay Rays, Mike Scioscia appointed Ebel as the third base coach on his coaching staff.

Ebel, who was an interesting benchwarmer, saw Ohtani’s rookie season unfold in Anaheim. He took over as third base coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers in November 2018.
