Shohei Ohtani’s translator scored a Rookie Card with a humorous notation

“Has a monthly haircut”—when Shohei Ohtani’s translator scored a Rookie Card with a humorous notation, Mike Trout couldn’t help but giggle.

Since signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers this summer, Shohei Ohtani has been the center of attention. The two-way Major League Baseball great just inked a massive 10-year, $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, after spending six seasons with the team.

Among Ohtani’s many notable accomplishments while playing for the Angels was his 2018 Rookie of the Year trophy. But because he wasn’t used to speaking English, the Japanese celebrity struggled during interviews.

Ippei Mizuhara has been Ohtani’s go-to interpreter for all things related to the media and team dynamics since he joined the MLB. Notably, Mizuhara and Ohtani were both presented with an honorable rookie card in 2018.

But there was a statement on the translator’s card that said:

“Gets his hair cut once a month”

Upon seeing Mizuhara’s card, Mike Trout, a slugger for the Los Angeles Angels, wasted no time taunting the interpreter, saying:

“Was Ippei’s hair visible to you?” Worst thing ever. The flow is excellent.
