Andre Jackson’s 2023 Los Angeles Dodgers player reviews

Andre Jackson’s Rollercoaster Journey: Overcoming Setbacks and Embracing New Opportunities

In the 2023 season, Andre Jackson had high hopes for a significant role with the Los Angeles Dodgers after securing a spot on the team’s Opening Day roster. However, he faced challenges finding consistency throughout the year.

The right-hander began his season on a positive note, delivering three scoreless innings out of the bullpen and even securing a save against the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, his next appearance against the same team proved to be more difficult, as he allowed three runs in two innings.

Following a couple of tough outings against the Chicago Cubs, Jackson was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. He later made two more appearances with the Dodgers before being designated for assignment to make room for Ryan Brasier’s call-up from OKC.

At the time, Jackson was already with Oklahoma City, as the corresponding move to the Dodgers was selecting the contract of Adam Kolarek. This marked the fourth time he had been optioned, leaving him with just one more option before reaching the limit of five Minor League options per player in a single season.

Eventually, the Dodgers traded Jackson to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash considerations. After making five appearances with Triple-A Indianapolis, Jackson spent the rest of the 2023 season in the Majors.

In a combined total of 19 games, including seven starts, between the Dodgers and Pirates, Jackson finished with a 1-3 record and a 4.99 ERA. His FIP stood at 4.90, and he maintained a 1.21 WHIP over 61.1 innings pitched.

During his time with the Dodgers in 2023, Jackson didn’t earn a decision in seven appearances but did manage to record two saves. However, he struggled with a 6.62 ERA and a 1.42 WHIP. In his outings with OKC, the 27-year-old pitcher went 1-1 with a 5.86 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP in 11 games, including one start.

Originally selected by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Jackson spent parts of three seasons with the team, compiling a 0-1 record, four saves, a 4.15 ERA, and a 1.38 WHIP across 14 games.

One of the highlights of Jackson’s 2023 season came as a member of the Pirates when he delivered an impressive performance against the Miami Marlins on October 1. In his final appearance, he surrendered only one hit and threw four shutout innings.

Looking ahead to 2024, the Pirates designated Jackson for assignment in late December. After clearing waivers, he opted for free agency. While he may have to settle for a Minor League contract this offseason, Jackson’s youth and versatility in handling various pitching roles make him an intriguing prospect for interested teams. Despite the setbacks he has faced, Jackson remains determined to embrace new opportunities and make a comeback in the upcoming season.
