According to reports, the Yankees are ‘in play’ for a superstar pitcher in free agency

It is possible that the New York Yankees will make yet another significant move during this offseason.

At the moment, New York is aiming to enhance its pitching within the organization. The Yankees have been looking for starting pitching assistance, but they also need to bring in one or two relievers who can have a significant impact on the game.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, if the Yankees were to miss out on a starting pitcher in free agency, such as former Yankee Jordan Montgomery, they might potentially move in a different direction and try to get superstar reliever Josh Hader.

“(Josh Hader’s) looking for a deal north of Edwin Díaz,” according to Bowden. Therefore, it would take five years and more than one hundred million dollars, and no club has yet reached that level of success, at least not as of yet. However, the New York Yankees, the Texas Rangers, and the Los Angeles Dodgers are the three clubs that are currently in contention for the championship.

“What is quite remarkable about this situation is that it seems that all three of those teams would rather sign a starting pitcher or make a deal for a starting pitcher than acquire a closer. As an illustration, in the event that the Yankees are unable to bring Jordan Montgomery back, which is something they are aiming to accomplish, they will not be hesitant to make a change in order to acquire Hader.

At the moment, Hader is widely considered to be the best closer in baseball. During the previous season, the five-time All-Star pitcher made 61 appearances for the San Diego Padres and produced an astounding 1.28 earned run average. Although he is only 29 years old, he has already been honored with three Trevor Hoffman National League Relief Pitcher of the Year Awards despite his young age.

He is seeking for a large contract that is worth more than one hundred million dollars, but if the Yankees are unable to acquire a starter, it could be a good idea for them to bring him in to add to their already impressive bullpen.
