Luka Doncic, the talented player for the Dallas Mavericks, brought smiles to the faces of children at Children’s Health Dallas and Plano hospitals by surprising them with thoughtful gifts. As the new NBA season begins, Doncic continues to focus on making a positive impact on the North Texas community.
Eighty children at the Pauline Allen Gill Centre for Cancer and Blood Disorders received goody bags filled with surprises from Doncic as they bravely battled their illnesses. Each bag contained a letter from Doncic, Jordan sneakers, a drawstring bag, a sweater, socks, and an autographed portrait. Additionally, the children were treated to a “Luka & Bobi” coloring book, showcasing the animated friendship between Doncic and Mavericks center Boban Marjanovic. Heart-shaped frosted cookies with the number “77” and personalized pizzas, reflecting each child’s preferences and dietary restrictions, were also part of the surprise.
Doncic worked closely with the Children’s Health team to ensure the safe delivery of the gift bags, expressing his regret at not being able to meet the children in person. However, he hoped that the surprise would bring them joy and serve as an inspiration to keep fighting. Doncic wanted the parents and children to know that they were in his thoughts.
In recognition of Doncic’s contributions both on and off the court, Dallas County officially declared July 6 as “Luka Doncic Day.” This honor reflects Doncic’s impact in Dallas-Fort Worth, including his efforts to help those affected by the winter storm and his fundraising initiatives to support healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Luka Doncic’s gesture of kindness and his ongoing commitment to the community exemplify his dedication to making a difference beyond basketball. With his generosity, Doncic continues to brighten the lives of children and inspire others to give back.
