Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks reflects on the factors that led to their collapse against the Cleveland Cavaliers

Despite holding a 15-point lead and facing an injury-depleted Cleveland Cavaliers team, the Dallas Mavericks were unable to secure a victory on Wednesday night. The absence of Kyrie Irving for the Mavs was balanced by the Cavs’ missing top scorers Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, as well as Evan Mobley. However, the Cavaliers mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, ultimately winning 113-110.

According to Mavericks’ superstar Luka Doncic, the primary reason for their defeat was their inability to score crucial baskets when needed, allowing the Cavaliers to seize momentum.

Dallas was also significantly outrebounded, with the Cavaliers dominating the boards by a margin of 57-37. Jarrett Allen, in particular, proved challenging for the Mavericks to contain, recording an impressive double-double of 24 points and 23 rebounds, including nine offensive boards. Doncic led the Mavericks’ scoring efforts with 39 points on 14-of-29 shooting from the field.

The loss was a disappointing one for the Mavericks, considering the favorable circumstances that seemed to position them for a victory. However, they must now regroup and shift their focus to their upcoming game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, which will take place on Thursday.
