The Texas Rangers have been active in bolstering their roster during the offseason, making several notable additions. As per the recent updates on MLB.com’s transaction page, the team has secured the services of three players on minor league contracts. Among these signings, the most noteworthy is the acquisition of right-handed relief pitcher Diego Castillo.
At 29 years old, Castillo brings six seasons of major league experience to the Rangers. He previously played for the Seattle Mariners over the past three years before becoming a free agent this offseason. In the 2023 season, Castillo appeared in only eight games.
Castillo made his major league debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2018 and has amassed a total of 258 appearances throughout his career. He boasts a solid 3.22 ERA and has recorded 35 saves. Notably, in his three postseason appearances, twice with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2019-2020 and once with the Seattle Mariners in 2022, Castillo has showcased his exceptional skills with an impressive 0.98 ERA and three saves in 18.1 innings pitched.
Aside from Castillo, the Rangers have also secured the services of two additional players on minor league contracts. Outfielder Michael Reed, 28 years old, and right-handed pitcher (RHP), 27 years old, have yet to make their MLB debuts and are eager to prove themselves at the highest level of the game.
