Free Agent for the Dodgers Jake Marisnick Acknowledges Angel Sign

Jake Marisnick’s Journey: From the Astros’ Cheating Scandal to Joining the Los Angeles Angels

The Los Angeles Angels have made a significant move by signing Jake Marisnick, a former free agent from the Los Angeles Dodgers, to a Minor League contract. Marisnick will begin his journey with the Angels’ Triple-A affiliate, Salt Lake, with the potential for an invitation to Major League Spring Training in 2024.

In the 2023 season, Marisnick started with the Chicago White Sox but struggled to find his rhythm, going hitless in nine at-bats. In May, he was traded to the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations.

During his time with the Tigers, Marisnick showed some improvement, batting.232/.270/.420 with three doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 10 RBI in 33 games. However, he was designated for assignment and subsequently elected free agency after clearing waivers in July.

Subsequently, Marisnick signed a Major League contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he was expected to provide a valuable right-handed bat and contribute primarily against left-handed pitching. He had a promising start, going 2-for-5 in four games before being placed on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain on July 19. Unfortunately, he did not make another appearance at the Major League level for the remainder of the season.

Despite his absence from the big leagues, Marisnick managed to showcase his skills in eight games with the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, Oklahoma City, before the conclusion of the 2023 season.

Marisnick’s baseball journey began when he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round of the 2009 MLB Draft. Throughout his 11 seasons in the league, he has maintained a.228/.281/.385 batting line over 877 games, with his defensive prowess being a significant asset.

One notable chapter in Marisnick’s career is his time with the Houston Astros from 2014 to 2019. He was part of the 2017 team that was embroiled in the infamous electronic sign-stealing scandal, ultimately leading to their World Series victory.

While some former Astros players have shied away from discussing the scandal, Marisnick has been open and receptive to any questions his Dodgers teammates had regarding the matter.

As Marisnick embarks on a new chapter with the Los Angeles Angels, both the team and fans will closely follow his progress, hoping that his experience and skills will contribute to the team’s success on the field.
