Robert Murray reported on Monday that Martín Pérez, the former pitcher for the Texas Rangers, had finalized an agreement with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pitcher Pérez is left-handed and has spent a total of nine seasons with the Rangers in two different stints. After signing with the Rangers in 2012, he spent seven years playing for them before switching to the Minnesota Twins and Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball. After rejoining the Rangers in 2022, Pérez had a stellar season in which he finished with a 12-8 record, a 2.89 ERA, and an All-Star selection.
However, the Rangers’ signings of Max Scherzer and Jordan Montgomery during the previous season made it difficult for the 32-year-old to earn a spot in the rotation. Pérez was ultimately moved to the bullpen in order to provide space for Jon Gray and Andrew Heaney.
Pérez finished the 2023 season with a 10-4 record and a 4.45 ERA.
