Yoshinobu Yamamoto meets with the Yankees for the second time, joining the Mets

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that Japanese free agent starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto is scheduled to meet with the New York Yankees on Sunday, following a meeting with the New York Mets and owner Steve Cohen at his residence on Saturday.

Just two clubs—the Mets and the Yankees—have secured rematches with the highly sought-after starting pitcher. Heyman claims that Yoshinobu Yamamoto is being considered by a number of teams, including the Boston Red Sox, the Philadelphia Phillies, the San Francisco Giants, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The fate of the other teams’ chances of re-matches with Yamamoto remаins uncertain.

After parting with most of their starting pitchers in the Juan Soto trade with the San Diego Padres, the Yankees would be incredibly fortunate to get Yamamoto. Kris Pursiainen of WFUV reports that the team’s roster might include Aaron Judge and CC Sabathia, a former Yankees ace.

Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, and Shohei Ohtani were reportedly brought in by the Dodgers for their meeting with Yamamoto.

According to reports, the Dodgers and Yankees are considered the front-runners, with the Mets also being considered a serious contender.

Because his fastball, splitter, and curveball all get good grades, MLB clubs see Yamamoto as a possible ace. Many MLB fans consider Yamamoto’s splitter to be the best of all time.

We should expect a decision shortly; it will be fascinating to watch his final destination and the amount he signs for.
