As reports circulated Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani was boarding a plane to Toronto, Ohtani was spotted on the couch with his dog

It was a watershed moment when Shohei Ohtani entered free agency. So, it was expected that MLB insiders like Jon Morosi would go to extreme lengths, like following a flight to Toronto that supposedly had Ohtani on board, in order to learn which team the 29-year-old superstar will sign with before to signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Nevertheless, this was swiftly proven wrong. Milliоns of people would later learn that the plane wasn’t carrying Ohtani, but Shark Tank star Robert Herjavec and his family. In fact, Morosi was cоmpelled to formally apologize for his reporting error. Some may wonder where Ohtani was during the whole frenzy. To tell you the trutҺ, I find the answer amusing.

Inside The Ravine’s Blake Harris reports that Shohei Ohtani told SNLA that he was “just chilling at home with his dog” throughout the flight tracking chaos, and that he “thought it was funny” that everyone was going wild over whether or not he was on board.

Unfortunately, the Toronto Blue Jays fans didn’t find this amusing in the end. As rumors of a meeting between the Blue Jays and Shohei Ohtani circulated, the front office had to have been in utter disarray. At the same time, rumors began circulating that the Blue Jays were in a stronger negotiating position than the Dodgers—rumors that would later prove to be unfounded.

For several reasons, Ohtani’s free agency was already high-quality television to begin with. One thing that fans and analysts alike were eager to see was how much a club would have to pay to get the services of the 29-year-old superstar dual threаt. Second, his superstar status at the plate and on the mound will provide any team that signs him a huge advantage in the title race.

One of the most amusing parts of free agency will be when reporters were too eager to break the news of his signing and ended up tracking the wrong airplane, much to Shohei Ohtani’s joy. Neither the Dodgers nor any MLB fanbase could have predicted this.
