The Los Angeles Dodgers are considering a few minor additions to improve their overall depth while they wait on decisions from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani.
With a one-year contract for $9 million for the 2024 season, the Dodgers have already re-signed Jason Heyward, who is anticipated to stay in an outfield platoon.
The Dodgers are apparently interested in getting back together with Kiké Hernández and are currently looking for a right-handed utility hitter. The 32-year-old, who played seven different positions this year, had a breakout second half after being sent to Los Angeles at the trade deadline.
The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya reports that the Dodgers may also try to sign Isiah Kiner-Falefa, a former utility guy for the New York Yankees.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa, a utility player for the Texas Rangers and former New York Yankees, has been monitored by them. According to Rosenthal, the Milwaukee Brewers and Miami Marlins are also interested in him.
In 113 games played last season with the Yankees, Kiner-Falefa hit just.242/.306/.340 with 12 doubles, 6 home runs, 37 RBI, and 14 stolen bases. He doesn’t bring much offensive punch to the team.
On the other hand, Kiner-Falefa had four appearances on the mound with a 2.25 ERA while playing six different positions.
In 2021, while playing for the Texas Rangers, the 28-year-old had his greatest season with a 3.6 WAR. Kiner-Falefa, who plays third base, was the 2020 American League Gold Glove Award winner before that.
As Kiner-Falefa spent much of this season playing in the outfield, he would meet a requirement for the Dodgers, who intend to shift Mookie Betts to second base permanently in 2024.
After the MLB Winter Meetings, the Dodgers’ outlookThe Dodgers had a quiet MLB winter meeting in Nashville, but they will undoubtedly make a lot of changes in the coming days and weeks.
After Heyward re-signed, the Dodgers had a 40-man roster, so they will need to open up some places to create room for new players.
