The Toronto Raptors will take on the Miami Heat at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday. Prior to the game, Raptors guard Kyle Lowry announced that he has no plans to retire soon.
When asked about his future plans, Lowry told the media that he plans to retire with the Toronto Raptors, the NBA team with whom he won a championship in 2019.
The six-time All-Star was asked about his retirement plans during a chat with Raptors media members prior to today’s game in Toronto against the Heat.
“Yes,” Lowry said.
Oh no. It will be like, AI, everyone, stay calm! I’m only going to sign with the Raptors for today before I go. As a Raptor, I will certainly be retiring. Since I departed from this place, I have stated that. After today’s game, I’ll retire from the Toronto Raptors and sign that one-day contract. It’s just going to be that way.
Also, he mentioned,
I would really like to be a player. I believe my game is still at a level where I can make a positive impact on a team, and I am still enthusiastic about playing. There will be no goodbye today; I still adore this game.
As the Greatest Raptor of All-Time (GROAT), Lowry is renowned for his nine seasons spent with the Raptors. During his nine years with the Raptors, he accumulated more points than any other player and was perhaps the team’s best player.
In addition to ranking second all-time in the franchise’s record books, he led the franchise in assists, steals, three-pointers, and triple-doubles.
In Lowry’s first two years with the Heat, they made it to the Eastern Conference Finals; this year, they’re enjoying their third season together.
