Two players from the Texas Rangers farm system, Josh Jung and Evan Carter, have been winning over fans with their performances in 2023. The possibility of top prospect Wyatt Langford, who might sign with the major league team in 2024, has increased as a result of this. Selected fourth overall in the 2023 MLB draft, Langford made swift progress through the minor league ranks, playing in 44 games, the last five of which he spent with Triple-A Round Rock, and posting remarkable stats.
Three excellent outfielders are already scheduled to play for the Rangers in 2024: Adolis Garcia in right field, Carter in left field, and Leody Taveras in center field. Regarding Langford’s elevation, Rangers general manager Chris Young is being cautious, noting that there are still a lot of unknowns and factors for the upcoming season, including the potential for trades in the winter.
Langford, 22, had a fantastic summer season, mostly at High-A Hickory, hitting.360 with 10 home runs, 17 doubles, and 30 RBIs. He was promoted to Round Rock in September after maintaining his impressive play at Double-A Frisco, where he hit.405, including four home runs, in 12 games.
With an abundance of skilled outfielders, the Rangers are in a great position to potentially utilize them as trade chips in the offseason to acquire a starting pitcher or reliever. But according to Young, Langford won’t be taken into consideration for the big league club unless there’s a clear route for him to play frequently. The team’s primary objective is to field the strongest lineup it can, regardless of whether Langford, Carter, or any other player from outside the organization is in it.
